Aphorism #17 09:30
once we find the light in the dark pull the cord, lets start again the clock runs out, set the dial back to zero there’s still time for us to begin how quickly we become accustomed to a new land broken roads familiar horizons known & comforting some gradual, others gaping the distance beyond shadowing the distance at hand the million hands reaching the million hands pushing away– can each individual of millions span the cleft that one might know the mutual adoring of kinship? “I have never been here before: my breath comes differently, the sun is outshone by a star beside it.” the million hands reaching the million hands pushing away– feeling my pulse quicken, a heart sailing gripping ever-so-tightly, afraid to let this feeling go seeing through newborn eyes, this world gleaming tasting these bitter winds words on the tips of severed tongues flying in boats on the water became torch lit beacons and I followed them “I have never been here before: my breath comes differently, the sun is outshone by a star beside it.” you’re not alone these hands will lift you up

Aphorism #16 05:16
breathing that salted air and as it fills my lungs it all comes flooding back appendages bound with wire my heart has slowed down and as it lumbers, I can’t recall if I ever truly loved it beating with desire–with hope. did I fall in this hole? or had I gone willingly? the strength bleeds out of my pores– glistening at least, with this, I am safe secure and beautiful. but if I break out– if I release these chains– what happens when the whole world sees that I never learned to fly? remember when we used to be vibrant? breathing air for the very first time? now the windows are barred no frame could contain nature obsessed with all the wrong things time to sharpen our focus “A cage went in search of a bird.”

“A faith, like an ax. As heavy, as light.”
4.
Aphorism #63 11:20
“Our art is an art that is dazzled by truth: the light shed on the rapidly fleeing grimace is true—nothing else is.” is the content, by which I form bound in chains of entity? yet and how many times are we forced to fake it what you say matters & how you say it matters more more often now are we force-fed farce while sitting on our laurels this should give us license to scream FUCK YOU from the highest mountain! go! break down these walls the sleeping giant must awaken and lurch forth with impunity as the curtains are torn down around me I see melting figures beleaguered smiles they don’t represent me all these words will be ripped from the page when a true gale comes to pass with these words forsaken write them anew with crippled hands the images you thought you knew and loved will fade faster than they came told records cease to exist they fade; constrict, consumed write it down in ink puprose; priority cursive your heart away finding the right words in works with no words at all as sovereign dawn approaches breathe deep and pause are you listening? and will you sing back the words? “Our art is an art that is dazzled by truth: the light shed on the rapidly fleeing grimace is true—nothing else is.”

about

FREE DOWNLOAD: locktender.wordpress.com

Kafka is our first full length album, released in the summer of 2013. Five songs inspired by Franz Kafka’s lesser known, short proverbial works called “The Zürau Aphorisms.” While our songs focus on and borrow from only five of the aphorisms, there are 109 total that Kafka wrote while staying in Zürau over the winter of 1917-1918, published posthumously in 1931. The collection covers a vast range of topics and styles, is beautiful, contemplative, entertaining and insightful. The proverbs we have chosen attracted us particularly for their simplicity, beauty, openness to personal interpretation and in some ways, their obscurity.
